The Commanders Sign Amik Robertson, Which Is Technically a Thing That Happened

Per Tom Pelissero, the Commanders have agreed to terms with former Lions cornerback Amik Robertson. This is a signing. Robertson, a 2020 fourth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech, has bounced around the league for six years. He’s appeared in 86 games with 35 starts, which sounds fine until you realize that’s six years to accumulate 35 starts. He started 10 games for Detroit in 2025. PFF graded him at 46.8 overall and 45.3 in coverage. For context, that’s replacement level at best. That’s “we have a body to put on the field” territory.

The Commanders need cornerback help. Everyone knows this. But this isn’t help. This is organizational acknowledgment that we have a problem, followed by the roster-management equivalent of a shrug. Robertson has one interception since 2022 and 35 pass breakups in six years. Those are numbers that exist.

We have to do better than this. This is depth chart filler masquerading as an answer. If this is the plan at corner, we’re cooked before September.
